Featured DeliverLean Menu Item: Gluten-Free Coconut Chia Tofu Waffles

Did you try our Gluten-Free Coconut Chia Tofu Waffles earlier this week?

We were excited to incorporate these waffles into our menu, and from the feedback we received, it sounds like you were excited about them too!

Here’s a little more info about our latest breakfast creation:

A serving of two waffles contains 130 calories, 9 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber. They are gluten-, flour-, egg-, preservative- and lactose-free, which makes them a great choice for those of you with food sensitivities. The main ingredients include non-GMO tofu, chia seeds, flax seeds, gluten-free rolled oats and coconut milk. We top them off with fresh berries and walnuts for an additional antioxidant and omega-3 boost.

But enough about the food facts, how did they taste? Based on the exclusive taste tests we did here at the office, we loved their light, fluffy texture and the fact that they have so much flavor all on their own. Delicious.

So what did you think? We’d love to hear your feedback! If you didn’t get a chance to try them last time, I happen to know our Gluten-Free Banana Tofu Waffles will appear on next week’s menu. Enjoy them and give us your thoughts!

SuperFood Spotlight: Seasoned Barley (as seen in our Turkey Chili!)

SuperFood Spotlight: Barley

Barley is a rich, nutty, chewy grain with a pasta-like texture. It is most commonly used in healthy, high-fiber cereals, so most people aren’t used to eating it in its purest form. The raw, whole barley grain contains vitamins, minerals and fibers. The raw, whole barley grain is a healthier choice than pearl barley, which doesn’t contain most of these nutrients and fibers because they have been removed during processing.

While high in protein, and healthy dietary fiber, barley is also rich in B1, B3, lutein and zeaxanthin, as well as essential minerals and fibers. Vitamin B1 or thiamine is necessary for converting sugars into energy, and is also involved in the metabolism of fats and proteins. Thiamine is also know to help boost our bodies immune system, as helps us deal with emotional stress, thus keeping the seasonal cold and flu at bay.

Vitamin B3, or niacin, is involved in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins and is also necessary for optimal health of the skin, eyes, liver, and the nervous system. Niacin plays a role in the production of some hormones and also helps to reduce blood cholesterol levels. Finally, the lutein and zeaxanthin, help protect the eyesight and promote eye health.

This week, our DeliverLean chefs have brought back a customer favorite – Turkey Chili served over Seasoned Barley. This meal is jam packed with 33 grams of protein, 45 grams of carbs, and all of the nutritious vitamins and minerals discussed above, and still under 400 calories! You’ll love our healthy version of this classic American comfort food!

The EGG-cellent Benefits of EGGS!

Image

The Benefits of Consuming Eggs for Breakfast. Tomorrow morning, our DeliverLean clients will wake up to an assortment of delicious meals freshly sealed, packaged and ready to be enjoyed. Our traditional clients will have receive a breakfast burrito with spinach, feta, and sundried tomato. While and our paleo clients will be given an asparagus & roasted red pepper breakfast frittata with grilled tomatoes.

I thought now would be the perfect time to discuss why eggs are the perfect breakfast food. I could get into each detail on my own, but I thought http://www.lifehack.org/ did an amazing job discussing these benefits on their website.

7 Reasons You Should Eat Eggs for Breakfast:

1. Eggs keep you feeling full much longer than cereal or toast.

The protein and fat in eggs helps sustain your energy levels, keeping you satisfied for longer and reducing the need for a mid morning snack.

2. Eggs assist weight loss.

This is a follow on benefit from keeping you satiated. Studies have shown that people who eat eggs for breakfast are more likely to lose weight than those who ate bagels.

3. Eggs are a great source of protein.

Whole eggs are one of the most complete sources of protein, meaning eggs contain all the essential amino acids which we must get from our diets.

4. Eggs tend to be relatively inexpensive.

Compared to other high protein foods such as red meat, even free range eggs are more budget friendly.

5. Eggs aren’t going to make your cholesterol worse.

While it’s true that eggs do contain a significant amount of cholesterol, the old formula of the cholesterol you eat impacting on your blood cholesterol levels, has been disproven. So there’s no need to worry about eating eggs increasing your risk for heart disease.

6. Eggs help with brain development and memory.

Choline, an essential nutrient found in eggs, stimulates brain development and function. It has also been linked with increasing memory retention and recall as well as improving alertness.

7. Eggs protect your eyesight.

Two antioxidants, leutin and zeaxanthin, are present in eggs and have been linked to protecting eyes from damage related to UV exposure. They have also been associated with reducing the likelihood of developing cataracts in old age.

Life After hCG: Our DeliverLean Guide to Long-Term Success!

Image

One of the five delivery meal plan options that we have at DeliverLean is our HCG Plan. Before I get into the details associated with HCG maintenance, I wanted to touch on our plan and the diet itself.

hCG stands for Human chorionic gonadotropin, and it is a hormone that is actually produced during pregnancy. Its main function involves guaranteeing that a developing fetus receives the correct amount calories and nutrients for growth. Moreover, if a pregnant woman for some reason does not consume the proper amount of nutrients for fetal development, the hCG hormone will allow for the fat reserves to suffice. Therefore, the woman is less likely to be hungry, as their body feels as though it has obtained all of the proper nutrients.

HCG treatments have become the latest trend in instant weight-loss, as the average person loses 1-3 pounds per day. Each round of treatment lasts a minimum of 26 days, and 23 of those days require a daily dose of hCG, either through injections or under-the-tongue drops. This is then accompanied by a VLCD (very low calorie diet.) Where most low calorie diets cause painful hunger pangs, the hCG injections do not.

The dieter is restricted to 500 calories per-day. At DeliverLean our HCG plan consists of 2 meals daily. Each meal contains 100 grams of lean protein sources and 3 ounces of fresh, non-starchy vegetables. We make it easy and convenient for our hCG clients to stick to their plan, and see the results they deserve.

So what happens after your 26 days are up? You’ve worked so hard to lose that weight that you owe it to yourself to keep the weight off! At DeliverLean, we will assign you with your own nutritional liaison that will help you ease off of the program slowly and effectively, promoting long-term weight-loss success. Moreover, this program will continue to change as your body becomes accustomed to its new needs, eventually allowing you to enjoy all of the foods that you once loved in a lighter, healthier manner!

Call DeliverLean today and ask to speak with either Eunice or Alli about our hCG programs!

A Day in the Life of a DeliverLean Nutritionist

Ever wonder how your DeliverLean diet delivery meals get from our kitchen to your fork? People often ask us what goes on behind the scenes, so today I thought I’d give you a sneak peek into the nutrition side of this whole production.

It all starts with our famous menu.  Chefs Andrew and James brainstorm to come up with unique and tasty recipes for you to enjoy. Lately, they’ve been working on expanding the Paleo options. If you’re one of our Paleo clients, you may have noticed an extra in-between meal on your menu! Aside from new selections, they also listen to your feedback and include meals you’ve told us you love.

Once the menus are complete, they get passed along for me to butcher review, which looks something like this:

I analyze the recipes, and adjust portions so they fit our calorie and nutrient parameters. I also provide guidance in terms of the ingredients we use and the balance of our meals. If they seem too carbohydrate heavy or lacking in vegetables, we try to re-work them. Our goal with the Traditional meal plan is to keep the meals around 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% fat. Paleo meals will have a lower carbohydrate percentage since we omit grains. Creating meals and recipes that work individually but can still be produced in large quantities is quite a challenge sometimes!

Once the menus have been finalized, production can begin on your long awaited meals. This is the part I leave to the experts. We typically work at least one week ahead of time, so the meals I’m analyzing today will be on your menu at the end of next week. Curious about your upcoming selections? Welllll, I may or may not see a Chipotle Steak & Mushroom Quesadilla in your future. For my Paleo friends, how do Shrimp Cakes with Spinach Slaw & Coconut Almond Dressing sound? Yep, that’s what I thought.

We leave the rest up to you! Enjoy your meals, and give us your feedback. Not only do we love hearing from you, but your feedback will help us decide what to put on the menu next. Questions? Comments? Feel free to email me at eunice@deliverlean.com.

Superfood Spotlight: Protein Pancakes

Superfood Spotlight: Protein Pancakes

Image

This morning at DeliverLean, we enjoyed delicious protein pancakes for breakfast. Protein pancakes are a favorite here at DeliverLean, and are often seen on our menu once every two weeks. So what makes these pancakes so delectable? There are a variety of amazing ingredients here that help contribute.

The five main ingredients are oatmeal, cottage cheese, quinoa flour, berries, and nuts.  The cottage cheese is the protein super-star in this dish, with around 12grams per serving. Cottage cheese is the perfect healthy-baking alternative, as it is incredibly versatile. This is because while cottage cheese is high in protein, it is still low in calorie, fat, and sugar.

Combined with Oatmeal, these pancakes become one of the healthiest breakfasts around. Keri Gans, a registered dietitian in New York City and author of The Small Change discusses the combination of the two on TIME: Healthland. “I get fiber from the oats, protein and calcium from the milk and cottage cheese, and healthy fat from the seeds. The combo keeps me satisfied until lunch,” states Gans.

Furthermore, the berries, quinoa flour help stabilize the pancake and create an ideal end result. The DeliverLean protein pancakes are significantly healthier than traditional pancakes, yet still taste astonishingly similar. Join DeliverLean today, so you can try our amazing protein pancakes, and all of our other delicious meals.  Let us help you enjoy eating healthy with diet delivered meal plans!

Rosa Gordon from Lifetime’s “The Balancing Act,” weighs in on DeliverLean

Image

Rosa Gordon is a contestant on Lifetime’s “The Balancing Act’s,” newest segment called “A Lifetime of Health and Wellness Makeover.” She trains with Adriana Martin, and has lost over 30 pounds since she started her training. Rosa has also been eating our DeliverLean food throughout the entire process, and she absolutely loves it! Here is a wonderful email she sent us over the weekend. We were so excited to hear the news, that we had to blog & brag about all of her success! You can catch Rosa and Adriana on the “The Balancing Act” on Lifetime, weekday mornings at 7:00am! Go Rosa!

Hi Scott –

When I started this Makeover my weight was 248.5 on the Dexter Scan (most accurate weight) and 246.5 on the scale at Premier. I am now below 216 (we will see on Wednesday how much more) and have lost over 30″s.

But more important is what is happening in my body….in 2009 my Triglycerides were an astonishing 2388 and have stayed in the range of 550- over 1,000 every since. When I began the Makeover on Jan. 23rd my Triglycerides were 1164, I was pre-diabetic and was suffering from cellular inflammation with all the side-effects. But on March 5, 2012 my blood test showed my Triglycerides had dropped to 220; no more cellular inflammation; no longer pre-diabetic!

The food that Deliver Lean has supplied me with over the last two months has been one of the key components of this miraculous change. There are not enough “thank you’s” that I can give to tell you how much it has meant to me for your continued support! I am the only participant that eats your food 7 days a week and it shows.

I know you met Adriana, my amazing trainer, this week, wish I could have been there. She was so impressed by your passion and the Company which you have built. Since we are both entrepreneurs, we can truly appreciate and respect what it has taken for you to grow Deliver Lean. Congratulations to you & I know it’s just the beginning for you!

Adriana & I, the girl team, are kicking butt leading the girls in weight loss and if there were awards for focus, commitment and fortitude we would have one those too! She is a little dynamo and as a team we are lethal!

Thanks again for playing such an important role in saving my life!

-Rosa
