No Soup for You!
We may not realize that the container our food is stored in may be leeching chemicals into our food. Sometimes the toxicity of processed foods is not limited to the list of ingredients on the package or can. We may be eating toxins without even being aware of it. This is especially true of canned foods and the plastic containers used for frozen entrees and bottled beverages.
But there are other dangers lurking on the grocery store shelves. Few people know that canned soups are lined with bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical that has been linked to reproductive abnormalities and other health problems. While BPA is not listed in the ingredients, it seeps into the soup via the lining. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that eating a 12-ounce serving of canned soup once a day for five days left participants with much higher BPA levels in their urine than when they ate soup made with fresh ingredients for five days. In addition, many plastic food containers, such as those for frozen meals, contain BPA.
Being conscious of the quality of food containers as well as the food’s ingredients are critical for your overall health.
