Image

Afrika Perry, radio personality from 96.5 has been eating DeliverLean for the past two weeks now and she absolutely loves it! Check out this amazing blog post she wrote about her experience thus far. You can catch Afrika on the power 96 morning show from 6:00am – 10:00am Monday – Fridays. Thank you Afrika!

Ok I admit it…

Miami has me spoiled. The weather, beautiful people, the culture, and most of all….the beach. Ah yes…the beach. I moved a block from the beach about a year ago. It’s the kind of lifestyle I’ve always dreamed of having…

I live in a tropical paradise. I can walk to the beach anytime I want…I do believe I’m living the life. 🙂

And with all this you would think a girl could throw a meal or two together sometimes…right? Well, yes and no. I mean I’m a Southern woman, of COURSE I CAN cook, I just don’t WANT to.

And that doesn’t make me lazy. First of all, I’m single and I could never cook a portion for just me. I over cook, that’s what I do. And then, it’s sad. I always hated those cooking books called ‘Cooking for ONE’. (No offense to those who have that book).

I mean, I would much rather just pick something up than taking time to cook or much less….go the GROCERY STORE.

I will say that THAT is one of the things that I dislike to do the most. It’s just. not. fun. And so, what do you do if you notice your pants are fitting a little tighter because of all the wine and steaks at dinner? You get a meal delivery service…

Or at least thats what I DID. Not only are there so many things to do in Miami, I want to be able to DO THEM without feeling listless, and tired all the time. Which we All know has a great deal to do with our diets.

Enter Deliver Lean…

I called them after a seeing a few tricked out looking trucks on 95…(yes, I will admit the packaging got me). But the product is what KEEPS me here.

I was always skeptical of how meal services worked…would I like the food? Will I starve and will it feel like I’m deprived all the time? And I’m happy to report that NONE of these things have been an issue.

I’m feeling better and eating better than I ever have in my life….and oh yeah, the food? Delish.

I have attached a picture of a dish I got from them….and let me just say, my food looks a lot better than some stuff I see people cooking and posting on Instagram. #justsayin

So yeah, call me ….Lazy, or just call me Smart.

Green Power Smoothie

So I trust by now that you’ve all heard all about our new DL Juice line. We currently sell seven juices from our DeliverLean kitchen that are all hand-made in our cold-pressed juicer with organic fruits and vegetables. With the launch of our juices we decided to create a high-protein smoothie to act as an additional easily digested nutrient dense meal.

We currently have two smoothies available to add to your current DeliverLean diet delivery meal plan. The first of these is our Vegan Protein Smoothie made with vegan protein powder, ground chia seeds, goji berries, blueberries, and coconut oil. This smoothie is the perfect breakfast or post-workout snack. While some of these ingredients may sound foreign, every single one of them could be considered a superfood for their high nutrient value.

  • Blueberries rank the highest of any fruit in regards to antioxidant content. Antioxidants have been linked to lowering cholesterol levels, encouraging heart health, and protecting the body against certain types of cancers.
  • Goji Berries contain all essential amino acids and have a much higher concentration of protein than any other fruits. Aside from protein, goji berries are also high in vitamin C, carotenoids, fiber, iron, calcium, zinc, and selenium.
  • Coconut oil has gained increasing popularity because of its well-known benefits for hair, skin, and nails. We use coconut oil in our Raw Vegan Protein Smoothie because we believe that it is important to incorporate healthy fats into our diet. The health benefits of this naturally occurring fat include improving your heart health, boosting your thyroid, increasing your metabolism, and promoting a lean body and weight loss if needed.
  • Chia seeds are high in protein, omega fatty acids, calcium, antioxidants, and fiber. With around 11 grams of fiber per ounce, chia seeds help slow digestion and make you feel fuller by soaking up fluid and expanding in your digestive tract.

Our DL Green Power Smoothie is made with blueberry, spinach, cucumber, green apple, and flax seeds. Although it does not use any protein powder, the spinach supplies around 12 grams of protein by itself. The flaxseeds supply around 5 grams of protein as well, making this a wonderful vegetarian protein source.

DL Juice is our latest innovation. Our juices are cold-pressed, using only the finest organic fruits and vegetables. Our “pressed to perfection” method takes place on a hydraulic press which extracts only the best produce directly from the pulp of the fruit or vegetable. This process minimizes oxidation and facilitates the release of vitamins, minerals and enzymes directly into each and every bottle of DL Juice.  In your Wednesday delivery you can expect to find a sample of our YELLOW 1 DL Juice FREE for you to enjoy.  This magical elixir boasts the flavors of pineapple, green apple, cucumber and mint.

Stay Healthy During Cold and Flu Season

Why all the fuss over bacteria. Bacteria are everywhere in the world and are a natural part of life; in fact they rarely cause us problems. They live on our skin and hair, inside our nose, and from our mouth to our … well, you know what. Overall, bacteria are not bad. In fact they are necessary for our own survival and are responsible for maintaining the delicate balance of our entire body.

Just like us, bacteria are very resourceful and do their best to survive. When exposed to antibiotics, bacteria either die or survive. Selective pressure occurs when bacterial survivors’ replicate, and their offspring quickly become the dominant type and are resistant (immune) to specific antibiotics. They then grow and place the eco-system out of balance. This occurs not only within our body but also in nature. As a result, an army of antibiotic resistant bacteria can arise and spread from the environment to humans or from one area of our body that carries bacteria to other areas of the body that are sterile.

This is a major concern because we are approaching an era within this century where physicians may not have a way to treat life-threatening infections.  It’s not unreasonable to see that a bacterial infection could be our Armageddon within this Century. According to the CDC, the FDA, and the World Health Organization, the emergences of antibiotic resistance bacteria (bacteria immune to antibiotics), has been called one of the world’s greatest health threats.

The use of antibiotics by doctors and the agricultural industry is one of the main drivers of antibiotic resistance. Antibiotics are commonly given to food animals to speed their growth and compensate for less-than-hygienic conditions. Because of this antibiotics are being found in river sediment, fertilizer and farmed soil.

But wait a minute! It’s not just the health care and agriculture industries that should take all the blamed. The general population also shares in the growth of these super bugs.  It is commonplace for expired prescriptions to be washed down the drain, flushed down the toilet, or thrown in garbage. The antibiotics leach into soil and pollute our delicate eco-system resulting in Antibiotic Super-Bugs.

As you can see, the public health consequences are significant. If a person gets one of these super bugs requiring hospitalization, the current antibiotic therapy we have may fail and the person may die to a once-treatable infection. In fact over the past few decades we are seeing this more and more in hospitalized patients.

What can you do to protect yourself and the environment?

Don’t

  • Eat antibiotic-riddled food
  • Throw expired antibiotics in the garbage or flush them down the toilet
  • Wash them down drain.
  • Beg your physicians for antibiotics when you have a viral flu or a cold. Antibiotics have no effect on viruses.
  • Use over the counter bacterial ointments

Do

  • Give expired prescriptions to your pharmacist for proper disposal
  • Maintain a healthy weight by exercise a minimum of 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week.
  • Eat more organic meats fruits and vegetables (free of pesticides and antibiotics)
  • Use a basic multi-vitamin every day
  • Use Pro-Biotics to promote colon health.

It’s going to take more than an apple a day to keep the doctor away. DeliverLean is a major component to a healthy life-style and keeping you out of the hospital. We created Rx Meals to prevent illness and make it easy for consumers and patients to follow their physician’s dietary recommendations. Try out our heart-healthy and diabetic friendly Rx Meals for ultimately health and wellness.
